Bostonians and those from nearby convened at Christopher Columbus Park, in the North End, on Saturday afternoon to protest gun violence.
Protestors held signs proclaiming sentiments like “ABC’s not AR-15s,” or one child who held a sign that said “I just want to be alive for recess!”
The protest was part of a national movement organized by a group called March for Our Lives. According to their website, the group started after the Feb. 14, 2018, school shooting in Parkland, Florida’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, in which a gunman opened fire, killing 17 people and wounding 17 others.
“Our message and ask for this March is simple: no longer will we be held hostage by our lawmakers and no longer will we tolerate feeling unsafe in our communities,” the group wrote in an announcement of the protest. “Regardless of what party you stand for, if you do not support lifesaving measures like universal background checks, we will pledge to vote against you this fall and in future elections.”
