Three local teenagers died Sunday in an early morning car wreck that also left a fourth teen with serious injuries, according to Massachusetts State Police.
The car, a Nissan Sentra, reportedly went off the road and rolled over about 40 feet into the woods, police said.
Two of the teens who died attended Tantasqua Regional High School, the superintendent of schools confirmed on Sunday.
“We are deeply saddened by the news that the lives of 2 of our Tantasqua High School students were lost in a tragic accident overnight,” Superintendent Deborah Boyd said in a statement.
“Our hearts go out to their families as well as our students and staff,” Boyd added. “Counselors will be available at the high school at the beginning of the week for any of our school community in need of support.”
Troopers from the Sturbridge Barracks just before 1 a.m. on Sunday responded to the single-vehicle crash in Brimfield, in the area of 40 East Brimfield-Holland Road.
Three occupants were determined to be dead at the scene: A 19-year-old Holland man, who police believe was the driver; an 18-year-old West Brookfield man; and a 17-year-old Oxford boy.
The fourth person in the car, a 17-year-old Brookfield boy, fled the scene before the troopers got there. The boy suffering serious injuries went to Harrington Hospital.
